PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS |
Hi Friends, |
| By now most snowbirds have returned North to enjoy the cooler weather, but Lois and I have chosen to enjoy some of Florida's summer temperatures before we head back to Indiana by the first of July. Currently we are living in our "D" full time while we construct a Park Model Home on our lot in Crystal Lake RV Resort here in Naples. | |
| In Mid-April we held a mini-rally in Naples with Chuck & Donna Tolson, Ron & Sarah Hyslop and Bill and Nancy Scheerer, celebrating three birthdays, having lunch and catching up on the latest happenings. We had a great time and look forward to seeing many more "D" people in our park in the coming year. | |
I'm sure many of you are looking forward to the August time period when we will get together in Fryeburg to enjoy all the activities that Ron add Sarah Hyslop are putting together, especially the lobster bake which sounds fantastic. We will then caravan to Brunswick to attend the Summer Convention. A reminder to those attending is to bring along wood to put under your leveling jacks since we will be parking on the runways of the airbase in Brunswick. |
| We will be having our annual meeting in Brunswick and will be electing the National Director and Alternate National Director. The date, time and place of the meeting will be announced in the next newsletter (or check your program book once you get to the convention). We look forward to seeing many of you at this meeting. | |
| Til next time, enjoy your travels; but for me - I'm back to pounding nails. | |

OOPS!!!!! APOLOGIES TO MICHAEL |
It was never the intention of this publication to claim Michael Edelman's web site as its own. The Internet Discovery Motor Home Club (IDMC) is a list/club - www.discoveryrvclub.org - founded and controlled by Michael Edelman. Discovery International does not use the IDMC web site as its own. The correct web site for Discovery International is www.discoveryrvclub.org/difmca . The error in the last newsletter was the result of - typing error - failure to proof read - the neighbors dog chewed up our notes - computer error - the printer didn't copy the original correctly - or maybe, just maybe Bill screwed up! The IDMC Digest has become required daily reading for most Discovery owners and we appreciate the service provided via Michael's web site. Again - apologies to Michael and LLBA Consulting. |

ALWAYS CHECK THE TOAD |
Using a check list each and every time we "launch off" in our Discovery is a mandatory part of our process. The Discovery does not move until all items are reviewed. After having heard a couple of horror stories about tampering incidents at rest areas, we have become (we thought) diligent about rechecking our towed vehicle after each stop. We were concerned enough to replace the hitch pins with locking pins to avoid a catastrophe. Recently, we failed to check the towed vehicle after having lunch at a restaurant. When we arrived at our destination for the night, we discovered that someone had loosened the safety break-away cable on one side, it is fastened with a c-style, screw-on bolt. Because we both had checked the safety cables, we knew it had been compromised by someone. Fortunately the cable did not drop off. Lesson learned. |

FMCA GOVERNING BOARD ACTIONS |
The Governing board meeting will be held on August 17th as part of the International Convention in Brunswick, Maine. As your National Director, I will be voting for the Chapter on several items including the election of National officers. The candidates are: |
President Charles Atkinson Sr. V.P. Edward Ruese Jeff Jefcoat Secretary Jim Jennings June Davis Treasurer R. G. Wilson Don McGrath |
If you have a preference, please contact me, as I will be voting for those (people and items) that I feel will best serve the organization. |
Recently the International Area National Directors voted by mail for the International Area Vice President, the results will be announced on June 1. |
| Another significant item to come up will be extending the "window" for summer conventions in order to avoid the hot weather and to provide more opportunities for locations. If you have any thoughts on this subject, please let me know. |
I will provide a report of the governing board meeting at the chapter meeting in Brunswick. |

PRIVACY IN THE PRIVY |
At a rally not too long ago there were about 30 Discovery owners getting ready to leave the next morning to attend an FMCA convention. The men were busy stringing umpteen water hoses together in order to reach the only water hydrant so that each Discovery fresh-water holding tank could be filled without moving a single Discovery. This process was quite successful. Meanwhile, several of the ladies were gathered around a campfire. As darkness began to fall and the men continued to work, the ladies noticed a startling feature of the Discovery Motor Home. That frosted glass in the bathroom is quite transparent when viewed from the outside looking in, at night with the bathroom light on. There was a noticeable inventory reduction of mini blinds at the Wal-Mart shortly thereafter! |

SUMMER CAN MEAN SEVERE WEATHER |
When you are traveling by motor home, it means you will be at home, but in unfamiliar "weather" territory. It is important to become familiar with local sources of weather and other emergency information. By highlighting all of the county names on your road atlas, before the weather alert sounds, you can easily spot county names in an emergency. In addition, make a separate note of the county name where you are parked and each county that contiguously adjoins your county and whether those counties are north, east, south or west. The January 2000 Family Motor Coaching Directory features this subject in an article that begins on page 134. Don't be unprepared! |
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU Since one of the purposes of this newsletter is to share information, we would really like to hear from you about subjects that interest you. So, if you have information about a Discovery modification, service or maintenance technique, funny story, clean joke, or story about a recent trip, please send us "your scoop." We can be contacted by E Mail: WEADJA@aol.com or snail mail: Bill and Diana Allen, P.O. Box 2430 PMB 1037, Pensacola, FL 32513. We would love to hear from you! |
